On Sunday, March 12, Champion Charities celebrated our 24th “A Night at the Theatre” with an exclusive performance of HAMILTON: An American Musical. Hosted as usual by Megan & Harris Barton and Karen & Ronnie Lott—with title sponsors Linnea & George Roberts, Denise Foderaro & Frank Quattrone, and Merrill Lynch—the pre-show VIP Reception took place at San Francisco City Hall.
Our largest event to date was filled with thematic activities, live entertainment, and delectable bites and libations for guests. From the reception, our numbers filled the SHN Orpheum Theatre. VIPs included Bay Area athletes, such as the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green, along with San Francisco 49er alums Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Roger Craig. With a total of 1,400 guests at the reception and 2,100 at the show, Champion Charities raised more than $2.5 million from this one epic evening. Beneficiaries included University of San Francisco, Teach for America and the Basic Fund.
Debuting on Broadway in 2015, HAMILTON received a record-setting 16 Tony Award nominations in 2016 and took 11 home, including Best Musical. In the same year, HAMILTON was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
