Mitchel S. Berger, MD, Director of the Brain Tumor Research Center & Chair of Neurological Surgery at UCSF.
For the first time in history, we can offer hope to people afflicted with many malignant brain tumors. This area of oncology—long associated with high mortality rates—is finally beginning to yield to research. Ranked among the world leaders in brain tumor research, the Brain Tumor Research Center is one of only a few centers to offer integrated, state-of-the-art research and treatment for brain tumors afflicting both children and adults.
Clinical advances will occur at an even faster pace after Brain Tumor Research Center investigators move to greatly expanded facilities in the new cancer research center building at UCSF Mission Bay. These researchers have made seminal contributions to our understanding of the role of genetics in brain cancer and are also widely recognized for major achievements in introducing innovative therapies.
Eminent neurological oncologist Mitchel S. Berger, MD, has been instrumental in increasing survival rates for brain tumor patients. He is Director of the Brain Tumor Research Center and Chair of Neurological Surgery at UCSF.
The Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building at UCSF Mission Bay will provide enough space to nearly double the number of principal investigators working in key areas of cancer research, speeding progress toward new therapies at UCSF.
