For the first time in history, we can offer hope to people afflicted with many malignant brain tumors. This area of oncology—long associated with high mortality rates—is finally beginning to yield to research. Ranked among the world leaders in brain tumor research, the Brain Tumor Research Center at UCSF is one of only a few centers to offer integrated, state-of-the-art research and treatment for brain tumors afflicting both children and adults.
Clinical advances will occur at an even faster pace after Brain Tumor Research Center investigators move to greatly expanded facilities in the new cancer research center building at UCSF Mission Bay, opening in 2014. These researchers have made seminal contributions to our understanding of the role of genetics in brain cancer and are also widely recognized for major achievements in introducing innovative therapies.
