Our current priority is to raise a multi-million dollar fund by the end of 2010 toward the Brain Tumor Program at UCSF. Champion Charities' contribution will fund a major expansion and acceleration of research and treatment of brain tumors at UCSF, which is world-renowned for its work in this arena.
For the first time in history, we can offer hope to people afflicted with many malignant brain tumors. This area of oncology—long associated with high mortality rates—is finally beginning to yield to research. Ranked among the world leaders in brain tumor research, the Brain Tumor Research Center is one of only a few centers to offer integrated, state-of-the-art research and treatment for brain tumors afflicting both children and adults.
Clinical advances will occur at an even faster pace after Brain Tumor Research Center investigators move to greatly expanded facilities in the new cancer research center building at UCSF Mission Bay. These researchers have made seminal contributions to our understanding of the role of genetics in brain cancer and are also widely recognized for major achievements in introducing innovative therapies.
